Monika Nottebohm studied geography and sports, receiving her diploma from the University of Heidelberg in 1979. In 1978 she spent a semester doing research in Mexico. During a year-long trip around the world in 1980, she taught English at a language school in Bangkok where Thai graduates were being prepared to attend colleges in the USA. Back in Germany, she worked as a high school teacher in Heidelberg and Freiburg. She is married and has a son and a daughter, both of whom attended 11th grade in a North American boarding school. Johanna Seidler, graduated with a degree in business (European business) from Bamberg University. She spent a year (1996/97) in a host family and attended a private high school in Georgia, U.S.A. She spent a year studying in Barcelona, Spain. During her time in Bamberg, she was also president of the local committee for the student organization AISESC in Bamberg, which deals with exchange students (traineeship).
In collaboration with Schiefer’schen Schul- und Studienberatung, she did her diploma thesis on improving the intercultural competence of exchange students. She has been office manager at ssb-Nottebohm in Heidelberg since April 2006. E-Mail
Erica Dutzi, state certified translator for English/German, came to Germany as an exchange student with AFS in 1979. She grew up in Maryland, U.S.A. and studied in West Virginia and Heidelberg. She lives in Heidelberg with her husband and three children and spent many years working as a translator and English teacher. Looking for new challenges, she joined the ssb-Nottebohm team in January 2007. E-Mail

Dagmar Urbahn-Schiefer, certified social worker, studied social work in Düsseldorf. During the academic year 1975 – 76 she spent a year as an exchange student at the Jacksonville State University in Alabama. She went on to gain experience as social worker and advisor for children and young people of various ages and diverse cultural backgrounds. Among other things, she worked as head of an advising center for a large German health insurance company. E-Mail
Bruno Schiefer, former Head of School and later superintendent of schools at the School Board in Cologne, has been involved in intercultural school programs for over 40 years. He spent time abroad himself, for example at a high school in Centralia and at the Centralia Community College,Washington, USA. He is cofounder of a number of exchange organizations such as the Fulbright Society, Cologne and the renowned ‘American Secondary Schools for International Students’ (ASSIST) in Germany. In the year 2000 he and his wife Dagmar Urbahn-Schiefer founded ssb Schiefer’sche Schulund Studienberatung GmbH in Switzerland.The goal of this organization is to provide young people with the opportunity to receive an international and intercultural education at North American boarding schools and colleges, and to prepare them for the demands of the ever-changing job market.
