Lawrence Academy
Groton, Massachusetts, USA

Three unique qualities of the school, in addition to the high quality of education, in a caring and supportive environment:
  1. Student Centered Learning: Lawrence Academy recognizes you for who you are and inspires you to take responsibility for who you want to become.
  2. Winterim Program: An occasion for experiential learning, when students and teachers plunge together into the world outside the classroom – whether they choose to devote themselves to community service or a specific skill or project in the Greater Boston area or whether they leave the campus to explore the people, art, or environs of an American or international location.
  3. Independent Immersion Program (IIP): Under the supervision of the director and a faculty mentor, selected students create unique programs of study which include intensive independent studies with on- and off-campus professionals, internships, and traditional course work.

Special subjects offered:

Ninth Grade Program (NGP): In the NGP, students are supported in becoming more conscious of who they are as learners. The NGP with its interdisciplinary approach (combining arts, science and English/ history) is all about students’ both learning how to walk on their own intellectual legs and then better knowing where they want to go.
Combined Studies Course (CSC) in grade 10: The CSC weaves together the study of English and history to emphasize the reading, writing, and research skills that they share.
